Gerhard Hirsch's Storefront in Munich
Gerhard Hirsch
Gerhard Hirsch’s father Heinrich was a partner of the prominent German dealer Otto Helbing. As the Nazi’s rose to power, Gerhard fled to Prague, which would unfortunately prove to be futile. Following the Nazi takeover of Czechoslovakia, Gerhard was interned at Theresienstadt and Auschwitz, where he would remain for the duration of the war. Following liberation by the allied forces, Gerhard returned to Munich in 1945, and opened a new coin business in 1953 and began holding sales the following year. The firm, now known as Gerhard Hirsch Nachfolger, is currently owned by relatives.
