One of the great joys of putting this collection together has been tracking the coins back across their chain of ownership. In addition to my interest in learning about the purveyors and the custodians of these pieces who came before me, this provenance information helps serve two purposes: (i) reducing the risk of forgery and (ii) allaying cultural property concerns. These are the two great scourges of this hobby, and I believe documenting a chain of ownership is instrumental to combatting both.
I have included in the following pages information about the collectors and dealers that are represented in this collection not just because I find it to be nearly as interesting as the pieces themselves, but because I wish to document the history of these items, and preserve this information for their next owners.
