Wayte Raymond (1886-1956)
Wayte Raymond was one of the 20th century's most prolific numismatists. While best known as a dealer of United States coins and accessories (he is known for his eponymous "boards" designed to hold sets of coin series), Raymond was also an important American dealer of ancient coinage, providing coins to Morgan, Brand and others. In the early 1950's Raymond acquired en bloc J.P. Morgan's collection, which was owned by his eponymous library and loaned to the American Numismatic Library. Raymond consigned some of the classical pieces to the Schulman sale of 1951. In 1953, Raymond would publish a fixed-price list of the remaining coins, many of which were purchased by a single America collector who later consigned them to Stack's in the 1980s.
